Alexander Technique for Equestrians

Riders see tangible results with the Alexander Technique as they develop a deeper seat, improve their posture, and learn to soften their arms and legs. AT also clarifies the training for the horse, refines the riders’ aids, and enhances flexibility and suppleness.

How is this accomplished?

Riders learn to make subtle adjustments by cultivating a greater awareness of what they do in the saddle.

A private AT session with Diane includes table work and time on Amber (Diane’s “horse”) which helps individuals explore a more effortless half halt and lengthen in ways they did not think possible.

Diane works regularly with riders and teaches the Technique at Cutler Farm, Medfield.

Riding and AT Clinics

Diane collaborates with dressage and event trainer Lainey Johnson in offering AT clinics. It all started in 2007 when Diane and Lainey saw the transformative power of doing an AT lesson followed by a riding lesson.

Riders who saw Diane regularly commented that their riding was changing in profound ways.  Lainey noticed the difference in these riders during lessons.  They were easier to teach and much more relaxed and balanced.  Riders started saying after Alexander sessions that they wanted to go right to the barn and ride.  An idea was born.

During these clinics, a rider’s specific challenges are addressed by both teachers.  Each participant does a one on one session with Diane; is given time to tack; and then does a riding lesson with Lainey.  This collaboration is exciting since riders see immediate improvement.

Lainey brings expertise to dressage and event training with her over 30 years of multi-discipline experience. A USDF bronze medalist, she has trained horses and riders through Fourth Level Dressage and Intermediate Level Eventing.  She is a former hunter/jumper and “A” circuit competitor and trainer.  She conducts clinics, lessons, and training throughout Massachusetts.

Diane and Lainey are willing to travel to your barn and need a minimum of four and can accommodate up to seven riders.  This clinic has been sponsored by CRDA at Cutler Farm and is given regularly at Highland Hill Farm, Berlin.
